Our Love Story - Part 1 - The Meet Cute
Since this is my blog where I share what God is teaching me through my life, I figured it would be good to share a little more about myself. I’ve already shared my health story, which you can read about HERE.
My and my husband’s wedding anniversary is on June 11th, so I thought I would take a walk down memory lane and tell our love story. It also might be fun to have it all written down for our kids and future grandkids for posterity’s sake (ha!). I am going to split it up and will post a little each day for the next week, just for fun and also to get in all the details. so here we go…
I am from Colorado and my husband, Matt, is from New Brunswick. But we both went to the same Christian college in Florida. It was a small-ish campus with about 5,000 students where most everyone lived/worked/has class on campus. We each lived in the dorms (he in one of the guys dorms and I in one of the girl’s). And yet, we didn’t actually meet each other until our fourth year there. It was the beginning of the fall semester and we both were going to be residence assistants for our dorms that year.
One afternoon, all 6 RA’s were to go to a certain place on campus (the Crowne Center lobby, for those who are familiar with the school) so that we could have our pictures taken for the yearbook. I got ready and headed to the CC. I was one of the last to arrive. The other RA’s were standing around talking when I walked up. Not all of us knew each other, so we began introducing ourselves. It was then that I saw him for the first time. It was his turn and he said, “Hi, I’m Matt Sealy.”
I can’t say it was love at first sight, but I was immediately attracted to him. I remember thinking to myself, “So that’s Matt Sealy! He’s kind of cute!” You see, even though we hadn’t met before, I had definitely heard his name mentioned on many occasions. (Yes, from other girls talking about him!) So I knew OF him. But, I was (and am) a firm believer in the guy making the first move (call me old-fashioned, I don’t care!), so I left it at that. I figured if he would ever be interested in me, he would have to do something about it. But from that point on, he was on my mind - often.
The picture shown here is a snapshot of the yearbook pictures we took that day. The day that changed our lives forever - we just didn’t know it at the time. (How’s that for a dramatic cliffhanger for you? )
Come back tomorrow to read the next chapter of our story.
*Obviously this is my side of the story. He may have some different thoughts of our first meeting :-).
